Swami Omkarananda, founder and director of Badarikashrama has served in the United States since 1970. His universal outlook with a life centered in devotion to God and service to humanity has attracted many devotees.
In 1983, through the interest of local villagers, the India center was founded in Madihalli, Karnataka, with two acres of donated land. Through the tireless service and dedication of Swami Mangalananda and devotees the facility has grown to over 50 acres with facilities to serve generations to come. The USA center was founded in 1984 to serve the growing community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Swamiji has been greatly instrumental in developing the ashrama and inspiring others to follow in order to further the long-term goals of the mission. Those who come in contact with Swamiji cannot but appreciate his devotion to God, service to humanity and the intense desire to disseminate Vedic teachings. Swamiji inculcates spiritual awareness through active meditation, service, dedication and self-discipline. Swamiji provides spiritual counseling, satsanga and guidance in spiritual and cultural pursuits by bringing Vedic teachings to the family environment.
Through the support of the local community and the ongoing relationship with devotees in the USA, Swamiji is building a steadfast foundation for Eastern and Western educational exchange, preservation of India’s rich spiritual heritage and the development of self.
