Badarikashrama is committed to serving the spiritual and cultural needs of society through opportunities for personal liberation and the service of God through humanity. People of all nationalities and faiths feel welcome here to share in the resources and activities of the ashram and experience and appreciate the unique spiritual and cultural hertage of India.
Founded in 1984 by Swami Omkarananda, the ashrama serves a growing community in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are located in the serene San Leandro foothills. Sri Lakshmi Narayana, Sri Durga Devi, Sri Mahadeva (Shivlinga) and Sri Ganesh are worshipped daily in the ashram's peaceful mandir. Here the knowledge of the vedic rishis and the lives and teachings of modern saints are studied and promoted. The spiritual disciplines of Bhakti (devotion), Karma (selfless action) and Jnana (knowledge) yogas are taught, encouraging their practice in daily life for self-improvement and self-knowledge. Through worship, study and spiritual practice, people can experience the sacredness of life and the awareness of God's spirit in all things.
